Swine flu- Sports Article
Swine Flu is something so popular these days. On March 20th, 2009, in Mexico, doctors were noticing an abnormal pneumonia that people were getting. More than 700 people had this pneumonia and more than 100 people had died from it. On April 24th, 2009, international authorities reported that the mysterious sickness was swine flu. The flu quickly jumped borders and hit 16 states in the U.S. Back in Mexico, many things have been canceled. One thing in particular that has been banned from people for their safety is Football games in Mexico. FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) is considering whether or not to prospone the World Cup 2009 Tournament held in June 14-28. Mexican fans will not be able to watch there team play in front of them in person. The games are held in private. An anonymous spokesman says that the Mexican League game won't be cancelled since the games are played like this. Many fans think for the athletics protection, the game needs to be canceled until the flu is rissolved. Many people including Cab students think that the swine flu was only in the 50's. That is not true. Get your facts straight! There was a 1918 flu pandemic. Nobody exactly knew what the disease came from but pigs and humans got sick at the same time. It was in the 30's when scientist realized that pigs started it. That wasn't the end of it though. It grew! Between 1997 and 2002 the virus emerged three different subtypes. The subtypes are birds, pigs, and human species. Now in 2009 we have another flu pandemic. When will this pandemic end? How long will it last? How long will the future of sports history be prosponed?
